Obituary For Larry Dean Schmidt

Dec. 1, 1947 - Sep. 21, 2011 YUKON Larry Dean Schmidt, 63, of Yukon, passed away Wednesday, Sep. 21, 2011, in Del Norte, CO, "a place close enough to Heaven it wasn't a long distance phone call." Larry was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on Dec. 1, 1947, a son of the late Nina (Jones) and Benny Schmidt. He grew up in OKC, graduating from Northwest Classen High School in 1966. Larry married Ruth (Ciskowski) in Medford, OK, on Dec. 7, 1968, sharing 43 wonderful years together. Larry worked as a tester for Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent, retiring after 35 years.A faithful member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. A member of the Charles A. Salatka Assembly 2044 Fourth Degree and Knights of Columbus Council 6478.As a dedicated father of four sons he coached baseball, soccer, and basketball and was a Cub Scout Master of Pac 390 at St. John's. He and his wife loved spending time at their home in Colorado and after retirement they would spend the entire summer there. They also enjoyed taking cruises with a group of friends. Known as Santa to many children, he made the Christmas season a joyous holiday. Larry lived life BIG and always had a smile. He never met a stranger and loved people and especially his OSU Cowboys. His presence will be missed as his memories live forever. He leaves behind his wife, Ruth of the home; sons, Darrin of Okmulgee, Donald & wife Stacy of Rogers, AR, and Dustin & wife Farrah, and Derek & wife Alicia both of Yukon; grandchildren, Aurick, Kaden, Alivia, Kason, Cash and Cole Schmidt; brother, Benny Don Schmidt of CA; his dog, Brody, and his cat, Noodle. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy.
