Obituary For Ralph "Gene" Hobbs

Gene Hobbs was born August 13, 1937, in Elk City, Oklahoma and passed away on December 27, 2014, at the age of 77, at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Gene graduated from Elk City High School and a short time thereafter met the love of his life, Patricia Schones. They celebrated their 59 year anniversary on December 26, 2014. Gene was a member of St. John's Parish and Knights of Columbus. He retired from 4 Star Trailers in 2012, after 18 years of service. He thought of his co-workers as family and continued to keep in touch. His most prized possession and greatest joy was his family and we can't forget "Lucky Dog." Gene loved to share a joke and laugh (mark! mark!) Gene was a gifted musician who loved country music especially if it told a story. Gene loved a good story. His tales occasionally grew taller with time but always at his own expense. Gene loved to go on vacation with Carolyn and Frank and on very rare occasions could be coaxed into a casino. Gene was blessed with an appreciation of the simple things in life from a good frozen Forget Me Not to quick trip across the dance floor to just dropping a line in the water and sitting back. Gene never met a catfish he didn't find delicious. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Odis Hobbs, mother, Dorothy Gamble, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tosh, and brother Billy Hobbs. He is survived by his wife, Pat, children Rhea Payne and husband Andrew, Kenny Hobbs and wife Lisa, Phil Hobbs and wife Cathy, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, brother, Gary and wife Earlene Hobbs, and close friend, Tim Adams.

The more than 2.1 million Knights of Columbus around the world join Catholics and people of all faiths today as we mourn the death of our Holy Father Pope Francis, the Bishop of Rome and spiritual leader of the Catholic Church. Pope Francis was a powerful witness to charity and fraternity, calling us from his first days as pope to reach out to the margins of society and serve those who are too often forgotten. The Knights of Columbus is particularly grateful for its close relationship with our late Holy Father. Pope Francis continually encouraged our charitable mission and offered his blessing for our work, especially our humanitarian efforts around the world. Pope Francis was also very supportive of our efforts to help Catholic men be better husbands and fathers and take up co-responsibility for the Church’s mission of evangelization.Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.- Supreme Knight Patrick E. KellyPhoto: His Holiness Pope Francis received Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly in a private audience at the Vatican on Dec. 20, 2024. The Supreme Knight provided an update to the Holy Father on notable activities of the Knights of Columbus, including the growth of the Cor men’s faith formation initiative, charitable work around the world, and support for vocations.
