Our Brother Knight and friend Pete Pickett has passed away. He left surrounded by a devoted and loving family he built with his late wife Debbie. Though his body was weakened by cancer, his deep Catholic faith was at its peak as he departed. He will be remembered first and foremost for his unceasing love of Jesus Christ and his devotion to praying for the intercession of Our Mother Mary by the Holy Rosary.Pete was a 21-year, Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and rose to the office of Grand Knight quickly, serving in that capacity from 2008 to 2010. He later served as the President of the Kelly Memorial Corporation from 2011 to 2012 and put in 10 years of service as a Trustee for the council. At the state level, he served for 10 years as the chairman of the Oklahoma Knights of Columbus scholarship program. His most visible role in our council, however, was his 14-year run as Santa Claus at the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Children's Christmas Party, a role he loved so very much. His love of the children was returned in kind each year with a hero's welcome the second he climbed down from his "sleigh" generously provided by the Yukon Fire Department. An unofficial tradition of his Santa appearances was a picture with him and his great friend, our Worthy Financial Secretary, Gary Goldsboro, sitting on his lap. In his final appearance as Santa for us, Gary's son, Gary, Jr., and grandson Knox were added to the annual photo op!Pete served his country and was a veteran of Vietnam. His love of military aviation became a hobby and a business with his son, Tony (See: Pappy's WWII Aircraft Whirligigs and a B-24 Liberator replica pictured here, presented in 2025 to one of our members), and there are many aircraft enthusiasts around the country and world who mourn with us today. We thank God for the gift of Pete's life and for the holy example he set for many. May his soul find repose and eternal joy in the presence of Christ. We continue to lift his family and friends in prayer and ask God to grant them peace and solace.Funeral arrangements are pending, but we will share them as they become available. ...
